Electrodiagnostic Testing
Electromyography (EMG) is a test done to evaluate for nerve or muscle pathology.
This involves first applying electrodes to the arms or legs and stimulating the nerves. The second part of the test involves inserting a small needle, the size of an acupuncture needle, into the muscles of the involved area.
This test can be used to diagnose radiculopathy (pinched nerves from the neck or back), carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, and more!
To prepare for the test, do not apply lotion the day of the test. Let your doctor know if you are on bloodthinner or have a pacemaker. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt for upper limb testing, and bring a pair of shorts for lower limb testing (we do have gowns and paper shorts available if needed).
